Meet Joy: Behind The Protea Tree
Today, we’d like to introduce you to Joy, who is the photographer behind our new Exclusive Paint by number the Paint Plot Protea Tree.
Every now and then, we like to share profiles of our artists. One of the things that makes us unique here at Paint Plot are our designs, we have over 80 exclusive designs that we’ve worked with talented artists, photographers, illustrators and designers on.
After Joy posted in our social media community, we contacted her to see if she would be okay with us including her photo in our weekly voting system. The community voted and we turned this stunning photo into a paint by number kit.
We asked Joy to do a Q&A with for our community so we could find out a little more about the photo (and the artist behind it).
This tree grew in Joy’s parent’s backyard in NSW and when her parents sold their home after 45 years, she snapped a few stunning pictures of the Protea Tree in full bloom.
Do you enjoy photography? Is this a hobby?
I only take photos with my Samsung phone, the camera on it is amazing. I haven’t really done any photography but do love nature and flowers.
Do you still live in NSW?
Yes, I live in Sydney.
How do you relax and take time for yourself?
PBN!! I don’t often get the time though, I’m slow at painting, I am on my second and have six waiting at the moment.
My other relaxing activities are gardening, playing the piano and reading
I listen to music wherever I am, prefer music rather than TV noise.
If you could change something in the world what would it be?
There are so many things I wish I could change.
My wish would be for:
1. No disease and good health.
2. An end to domestic violence.
No matter who you are, where you come from or how much money you have, our health dictates our quality of life. The pandemic has really brought this to the forefront, it is sad to see so many people dying.
Domestic Violence – I won’t go into details, but if you are suffering get out and paint! Your mental health will thank you for it.
What makes you happiest?
First and foremost, spending time with my two children and puppy. My occupation as I’m a librarian and I like to help people. I love to be around family and friends that support you, accept you for who you are, and can have fun with.
We’d love to know about your parents caravanning adventures so far.
My parents sold the house and bought their caravan in June this year. We never really had any animals growing up, so it was a bit of a shock to know they started farm sitting. They love it!
Mum says the best part is meeting people, and helping them on their farms and giving them a break while getting free accommodation. So far, they have worked on a fruit farm in Narranderra, helped fix fire damage building maintenance in Batlow for a lady who lost her husband (Dad was a carpenter for over 50 years), farm sit in Rylestone and Picton looking after animals, chickens and gardening.
From the team at Paint Plot, a big thank you for the lovely Protea Tree kit and for sharing your story with us.
