How To

How it works

The container and canvas are marked with corresponding numbers.

Paint the container number (14) to the corresponding number (14) on the canvas.

Apply all the paint with the corresponding numbers on the canvas until complete

Once all the paint is applied, your painting will be complete.

Setting Up

  • Choose a comfortable chair and surroundings, with plenty of space and light.

  • A small container of water and a cloth is required to wash and dry paints between colours.

  • Make sure your paintbrush is dry before dipping it into the paint pots.

Helpful Tips

  • Start with the smallest areas, then work your way up to medium then large.

  • Paint the whole of one colour first, don’t stop and start.

  • Be sure to let the paint dry between colours to avoid any smudging

  • There should be no gaps between colours.

  • Take a picture of your blank canvas, it helps with small areas that can be painted over by mistake.

How does the Buy 3 Get 1 Free promotion work?

Just add 4 painting kits to your cart and only pay for three of them!

Do I stretch my painting before or after I've painted it?

Most artists would say that you should stretch the painting before you paint it. I, personally, prefer to stretch it after I've painted it because I like working on my painting when it's lying flat on the table. So it's completely up to you, both ways will work out nicely.

How does Paint By Numbers work?

Paint by Numbers is easy, relaxing and fun. You will receive your Paint Plot Australia box with everything you need inside to create the perfect painting every time.

Inside the box you will find your canvas, which has a grid pattern, with numbers that match the numbers on your paint tub. Some artists choose to paint the numbers one at the time and some choose to start in the corner (top left for example) and paint their way down the canvas - it's up to you!

In your Paint Plot Australia kit, you will also find paint brushes, a small image of your selected photo to use as a guide and a frame if you selected one at the checkout.

You can follow our step-by-step guide by clicking on this link: https://paintplot.com.au/pages/how-to

How long does it take for the paint to dry?

Because the paint is water-based acrylic paint, it will dry to the touch within 10 – 15 minutes depending on the thickness of paint application. You can use a hairdryer if you want to speed up the process, or simply work on another section of the canvas while you wait for the sections you have recently painted to dry.

How long does it take to complete a Paint By Numbers?

The length of time it takes to complete a Paint Plot painting will vary depending on the detail of the artwork you've selected, and the hours or time applied to working on it.

This is a relaxing art form which can be completed quickly over a weekend or enjoyed a little at a time over a series of weeks or even months. It is totally up to each individual.

How many paint colours are included in each kit?

Our kits include between 20-32 paint pots depending on the picture that you have selected. Our multi-panel kits include 36 paint pots. Some images are more detailed and contain more colours and some have bigger blocks of colour. You can see the level of detail on our product pages.

We always provide enough paints to achieve the authenticity and details of the painting.

I am not an artist, do I need to know how to blend colours or mix colours to complete a Paint Plot painting?

Absolutely not, everything is provided for you and no experience is needed! Our kits include all of the colours you will need to complete your art work. No blending or mixing of colours is required. As an example when painting a sky, light to dark values of blue will be provided based on the artwork. In our Art Academy Section we have a blog and video on how to blend.

My paint is a bit thick, what can I do?

Please make sure that your containers are sealed at all times (apart from when you use them), otherwise they can dry up pretty quickly. Our paint is water-based acrylic paint so all you need to do to get a better consistency is to add some water to it.  We also offer Acrylic Flow Medium, which is very helpful for older paint pots. In our Art Academy we have a blog on Tips and Tricks of Flow Aid/Flow Medium

What size artwork do you have available?

The most popular size of Paint Plot artwork, based on our community preferences is 40cm x 50cm (16” x 20”) and designs are available in either horizontal or vertical formats.

Why do you use acrylic paint?

Many people in the art world still feel that oil paintings are superior or more valuable than acrylic paintings. This is likely because many great painters of the past have used oils and that oil paints have been around for centuries.

When acrylic paints were first introduced, they were inferior to the acrylics that are available today. Today’s acrylics are available in both gloss and matte varieties that can even produce the sheen associated with oil paints. Quality acrylic paints made today also carry the same pigment load as oil paints, and some manufacturers even produce both types of paints.

Acrylic paints offer a non-toxic alternative that is better for the environment as well as human health. Oil paints also tend to decay at a faster rate due to the use of organic materials, whereas acrylics are made from synthetic polymers that will last longer.

Will I need to paint multiple layers to achieve good coverage?

Most colours will cover the canvas in one coat. If there is still a small amount of the canvas or numbers visible beneath, you can complete another coat or just use a slightly thicker coat for very light areas (like white or light blue for example).

Can I change or cancel my order?

Orders are processed very quickly to ensure the fastest delivery possible. Because of this, an order usually cannot be changed or cancelled once it has been submitted. Please note that if you receive your painting and are not happy, you can return this for a full refund, providing it is in it's original condition once we receive this. Please also keep in mind that since this is a painting, the end result can vary from kit to kit and from the reference pictures. There are customer reviews and images provided on each product page to help you choose the right painting for you, along with a rating of the complexity of the art work.

My order has already been shipped. Can I have the delivery address changed?

Our warehouse located in Australia means that for domestic orders, you should expect to receive your Paint Plot paint by numbers kit within 2 - 7 business days.

For some items, we will make your product to order. In this case, designs are made from our manufacturing facility and shipped directly to you. This allows us to offer a broader variety of paintings and means that we can release more new art, more often; which has been a common request for our community.

In this case, it can take up to 5 business days to create your custom paint by number print and up to 7 business days for shipping.

How much is shipping?

Shipping varies by location and to most places it is $3.99 AUD but if you order for over $100 AUD, the domestic shipping is on us! You can see the postage cost as you check out online and select standard or express postage.

What happens if I run out of paint?

We provide plenty of paint in the pots but if you run out of a colour, for any reason, send us an email support@paintplot.com.au and we'll help you out. We really want you to finish your painting so we will, of course, make sure you have everything you need to do so. Our paint guarantee is valid for six months after you've shopped with us.

When will I receive my order and shipping confirmation?

Your order confirmation will be sent to your email within a few minutes following your purchase. It may have ended up in junk mail so please have a look there. If not, just contact us at support@paintplot.com.au and we will send you a new order confirmation. Sometimes, if there is a small mistake in the email address that has been provided, the email can not be delivered so please enter your details carefully when you check out. Your shipping confirmation should be sent to you within 3 business days.

Will I receive tracking for my order?

Yes, absolutely. We use Australia Post as our shipping provider so you can expect a confirmation from us that your order has been placed, that it's on it's way and you'll be able to use your Australia Post tracking information after that.
